Vermeeren established himself as one of the brightest prospects in world football during his time at Royal Antwerp before being signed by Atletico Madrid in January 2024 in a deal worth €25million (£21m/$29m). The Belgian wonderkid, however, failed to live up to his potential at Atletico and was eventually sold to RB Leipzig after just one year. Unfortunately, Vermeeren’s form did not pick up in Germany as well, as the 20-year-old was sent out on loan this summer to Marseille.
Speaking to Voetbal 24 analyst Marc Degryse said: “What Vermeeren absolutely mustn’t do is go to a club like Chelsea or Manchester United, where they buy thirty or forty players and then loan you out. Arthur Vermeeren will ruin his career if he does that!”
Premier League sides Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly shown interest in signing the midfielder, while Manchester United and Barcelona, at one point, were linked with a move for the young Belgium international.
Since joining Marseille this summer, Vermeeren has appeared in three matches across all competitions thus far, where he has provided two assists. The midfielder would hope to regain his form and establish himself as a top player under Roberto De Zerbi.
