Bayern Munich full-back's future 'clear' as summer transfer looms amid injury struggles and lack of playing time under Vincent Kompany

Bayern Munich left-back Raphael Guerreiro, who has 72 appearances for the Bundesliga giants, might not have a future at the Allianz Arena heading into the 2026-27 season. The Portuguese defender, who has struggled with injuries and playing time under manager Vincent Kompany, is expected to leave the club as a free agent after his contract expires next summer.

Guerreiro joined Bayern from Dortmund in 2023 and has recorded 72 competitive appearances so far, but has never been the manager’s go-to man when it comes to his position. He has suffered multiple injury setbacks during this tenure, forcing him to witness the action from the sidelines on most occasions.

There is a probability that Bayern will not extend his contract and allow him to leave for free, Bild reports. In 2023, he joined the club as a free agent, and the same scenario might be repeated this time, too. He appeared 23 times under Kompany last term, starting in 19 of those fixtures. This season, he has appeared six times and also scored against Pafos in their fixture.

Since joining Bayern in 2023, the 31-year-old has sustained eight injuries, with the latest coming in the abdominal muscle, which forced Kompany to sacrifice him against in the Champions League.

Guerreiro was a Portuguese international and debuted under former manager Fernando in 2014 against in the Euro Cup qualifiers. He has 65 international caps and four goals for the team. His last appearance came against in the same competition in November 2023, where he featured for only 27 minutes.
